Kangana Ranaut, Javed Akhtar Resolve Defamation Case After 5 Long Years; Actress Shared Happy Pic Together Confirming Settlement

Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar have resolved in their long-standing defamation case after five years of legal disputes. Following years of courtroom battles, the actor and Member of Parliament, Kangana, and the renowned lyricist, Javed Akhtar, have settled their defamation lawsuits against each other.

Kangana took to Instagram to share the news with her fans, posting a cheerful photo alongside her update. “Today, Javed ji and I have resolved our legal matter (defamation case) through mediation. Javed ji has been very kind and gracious; he has also agreed to write songs for my next directorial project,” she wrote in her post.

What Sparked the Feud?

The conflict between Kangana and Javed began following an interview she gave in 2020, shortly after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In that interview, Kangana claimed that Akhtar had urged her to apologize to her co-star Hrithik Roshan. This request stemmed from a lawsuit filed by Roshan in 2016, in which he sought an apology from Kangana over their public spat regarding their alleged relationship.

Kangana recounted, “Once Javed Akhtar called me to his house and said that Rakesh Roshan (Hrithik’s father) and his family are very influential people. He warned that if I didn’t apologize, I would have nowhere to go, they would put me in jail, and ultimately, the only path would lead to destruction… that I would commit suicide. These were his words. He shouted and yelled at me, and I was trembling in his presence.” In response, Javed filed a defamation lawsuit against her, asserting, “Whatever Kangana said in the interview is a lie and nothing but a lie.”

He explained to the court, “I had informed her about the agenda of the meeting during our phone call. I didn’t call her to chat about the weather, political situations, or the American elections in 2016.” Although Javed admitted he did not know Kangana personally, he stated that he had always appreciated her work as an actor. However, he changed the topic of the meeting once he realized she was not receptive to his advice.
